Last Updated 26 May 2011, 16:08 IST

During this visit to the temple town he held discussion with officials of various departments, inspected several developmental works and also looked into public grievances. He said he would write to divisional controller of KSRTC to immediately stop the renovation of the existing bus stand in the town as the road leading to the bus stand was very narrow. Three acre of land belonging to the Department of Horticulture was available on Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar and it is the ideal location for the new bus stand.

The Divisional controller would be asked to submit a new proposal regarding the construction of new bus stand on the new location. The existing private bus stop near the Railway Station should be shifted immediately, he added.

Gupta said Ambedkar Sangha is constructing a bhavan near the railway station. The corner land should be given to the sangha to raise a beautiful garden. Since the traffic is heavy near there, the building should not affect vehicular movement. The taluk revenue officer was asked to take steps for removal of encroachments inside the town and widen the Rashtrapathi and Bazaar Road. The proposal for the development of Hullahalli Circle is before the State government and MP R Dhruvanarayan had released funds for this work. This should be taken on war footing. Besides, a lake in front of the SC/ST Hostel on Hullahalli Road should be revived. The tahsildhar should submit a proposal to this effect, he added.

The DC who visited the Railway Station was shocked to see the prevailing condition. He noticed that there was no parking facility near the railway station and even toilet and canteen were in bad condition. Gupta said he would write to the Divisional Railway Manager regarding this.

He said Kittur Rani Residential School is currently located in a rented building and it is surrounded by commercial complexes. Since the existing Mahila Vidyapeeta is restricted  only to training, the residential school would be shifted to the Vidyapeeta building and vice versa.

Later, he visited vegetables and mutton market and found slauthering, cleaning and sale of meat is going on in one place. A notice should be served to the health officer of Town Municipal Council to shift the meat market to outskirts of the town immediately.

Gupta observed huge boards put by shop-keepers of the complex belonging to the famous Srikanteshwara Temple and asked the official concerned to fix the size of boards to ensure uniformity. The temple authorities have to improve bath area on the banks of River Kapila and also shift toilets as they get marooned during rainy season and dirty water enters the river.

Preference to Nanjangud rasabale

Since the Nanjangud Rasabale is famous worldwide, the Department of Horticulture should promote it. Jayakumar, a progressive farmer who grows Rasabale and also formed an association said they do not use canal water to grow banana plants. Pest attack is certain if they grow rasabale alone. So they grow the banana plants among other crops to save them from pest attack. The DC asked the officials to support the rasabale growing farmers and also strengthen their association.

He asked officials to include Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar Road in the master plan being prepared by the Department of Urban Development for the proposed bypass road to Ooty from Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar Road.

The DC was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner D Bharathi, Tahsildar Joseph and Joint Director of Department of Urban Planning M N Kumar and others.
