Disposal of a few metal items from the Electric Division of the Bharat Gold Mines Ltd (BGML) were temporarily stopped as the workers staged a flash protest in Kolar Gold Fields on Thursday.

The workers gathered in front of the Electric Division and prevented the contractors from moving the equipment.

“The BGML administrative wing has violated the court rules. They are favouring the contractors,” the protesters complained.

At this, BGML officers claimed that they were only following the court order in disposing the articles to the contractors.

“Let the officials protect the workers as per the court order first, than disposing the articles to contractors,” they argued.

Disposal of articles from the Electric Division was given on contract to Prakash in 2001, through a tender.

Since the BGML had stopped functioning at this time around and the workers had protested, the administrative wing had not disposed the articles.

In view of this, contractors had moved the court to allow them to move the articles.
