JOIN USThe Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to the state higher education department asking them to explain the “lapse, which amounts to blasphemy.”
The picture has been published in a text book prescribed for B Ed course run by Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Faizabad. The book titled Udayimaan Bhartiya Samaj ke Shikshak (Teachers in Emerging Indian Society) is authored by Karan Singh, a retired professor, and published by Govind Prakashan.
Clerics, including, Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, senior member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and the Naib Imam of Lucknow and Maulana Athar, president of the All India Shia Muslim Personal Law Board demanded withdrawal of the book.
“It is against the tenets of Islam to carry any picture of the Prophet,” said Maulana Khalid Rashid.
