Synd bank opens financial inclusion resource centre in Mangalore

Speaking after inaugurating the Financial Inclusion Resource Centre for Dakshina Kannada district at Syndicate Bank Regional Office in Hampankatta on Saturday, Chatterji said as many as 47 branches out of 135 branches which were opened last year are performing extremely well. As per the policy of the Government of India and RBI, the banks are obliged to open Financial Inclusion Resource Centers to provide access to financial services to non-account holders.

Till date, Financial Inclusion branches were opened in the villages with more than 2,000 population. But going by the recent decision taken by RBI, hereafter the branches will be opened even in the villages with 1000-2000 population, said Chatterji.

He also informed that two more Financial Inclusion branches will be opened in the district in a near future.

Presiding over the function, Syndicate Bank Ex-chairman and Jnan Jyothi Financial Literacy and Credit Counseling Trust President D T Pai said despite Dakshina Kannada being the cradle of banking, as many as 30 per cent of population are illiterate towards banking. “Janana Jyothi Trust since its inception in the month of September has reached 14,000 of population,” informed Pai.

The newly opened Centre would cater to the banking needs of the people in the form of displays, pamphlets, showing slides, films etc.
