JOIN USShetty tendered his resignation at the emergency managing committee meeting held at the BTC. An emergency general body meeting of the BTC had on Monday called for his resignation, which was rejected by Shetty, who termed it as illegal.
“The move (by the general body) is not legally binding. I have, however, decided to heed the call of my conscience, as the interest of the Club has always been dearest to my heart, with the trappings of office hardly endearing me,” Shetty said in a statement.
“I have done everything, including getting the land for building a new venue. It is rather intriguing that the resolution has been moved at a time when most matters were falling in place, including obtaining a favourable dispensation from the government on the extension of lease of the existing race course,” Shetty added.
The managing committee, with recommendation from the government, unanimously elected Naidu as the interim chairman till the Annual General Body Meeting scheduled to be held in September.
