“The agency will soon submit a letter of understanding to the Director General - Shipping in this regard. The agency has been asked to take action at the earliest,” DK Deputy Commissioner-in-Charge Prabhakar Sharma told the media on Wednesday.

He said the DG-Shipping had conducted a meeting of top officials in Mumbai on July 27, in which the government and the salvage agency came to an accord. “P&I will mainly be looking after the marking, plugging and sealing aspects of the sunken vessel,” Sharma said.
In the meantime, Director General of Light Houses and Light Vessels has asked the officials concerned to mark the wreckage area immediately, to ensure that any other vessel would not collide with the wreckage. Deputy Director General of Shipping (Technical) Capt Jayakumar has been appointed as the investigating officer, to probe into the causes of the accident, the DC informed.
