'Yaksha Kala Nidhi' award to be presented

Addressing a news conference on Monday, Academy Director Sarau Krishna Bhat said that the award will be presented by Minister for Law M Veerappa Moily while Home Minister Dr V S Acharya will be present. The award will carry a certificate, memento and cash of Rs 12,000.

Director Vidya Kolyur said that Samaga-Kolyur pairing had been the most sought after couple in the field of Yakshagana. “The magic that they created as on stage couple is something that can not be replicated or replaced,” she said and added that Samaga is 80-years-old and Kolyur is 77-years-old but even today they continue to play mythological couples in various melas.

The award was so far conferred on luminaries of Yakshagana Kateel Purushothama Bhat, Pervodi Narayana Bhat and Mijar Annappa.
