Riding on goals from Thirunavakkarasu (33rd), Raghu Kumar (70th), Suresh Marei (78th) and Thiyagarajan (83rd), ASC put aside a disappointing first-half show to garner three full points with a 4-0 victory.

Indecisive in their movements in the rain on the newly-laid artificial turf, the players trotted around cautiously for more than 20 minutes but once they got over their urge to play safe, the game took on a whole new outlook.

What really got the game going, however, was an absolute blinder from Prakash in the 31st minute. Gifted a free-kick a yard or two from the centre line, the RWF midfielder lobbed the ball in the direction of the opponents’ goal. Much to everyone’s surprise, including himself, the ball sailed over ASC ’keeper Shantanu Kar’s head and lodged itself in the net. A second later, referee Vijaya Kumar blew the whistle to stop RWF celebrations and inform them that the goal was disallowed because Prakash had taken the free-kick before the whistle.
Hurting from the incident, the RWF players looked out of sorts and ASC made the most of it. Two minutes later, Thirunavakkarasu’s stunning goal rubbed salt into RWF wounds, and ASC’s no-holds-barred approach in the second half fetched them three more goals. RWF did come close to scoring on a couple of occasions, but that’s as far as they got.
‘A’ Division result: AGORC drew with BWSSB 0-0.
