JOIN USA committee of experts has been set up to identify the beneficiaries and it is expected to submit its report within 15 days. However, slums located on lakes, stormwater drains and roadsides will be removed, he added.
Former Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu said there are nearly 1,000 slums in the BBMP limits. Of these, only about 600 have been officially declared as slums. Unless the government officially identifies all the slums and issues title deeds to the dwellers, it cannot avail funds under Rajiv Awaas Yojana. The State is entitled to get up to Rs 3,000 crore under the scheme, he added.
Somanna said the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has chalked out a plan to make Bangalore free of slums. The Board will construct residential apartments for the dwellers.
MLAs from the City including Nandish Reddy, Satish Reddy and Aravind Limbavali urged the minister to issue title deeds before taking up the construction of apartments.
