“Principal secretary to the Prime Minister will chair the meeting of group of secretaries only on those issues where the fine tuning is required to give a proper shape (to the policy),” Sharma told reporters here.

Sharma said that after that he will meet Finance, Labour and Environment Minister together and report back to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “...as we have been directed within the stipulated period of 30 days,” he said. Yesterday, a high-level committee, chaired by Singh gave the in-principle approval to the policy which envisages big initiatives, including creation of mega industrial zones with world-class infrastructure.

Environment issues

The committee also took on board concerns over environment and labour issues. Singh has directed Sharma to complete consultations with other ministries within a month so that the final policy could be brought before the Cabinet soon. Sharma said: “It is a minor issue. The secretaries will sit together and they will be able to resolve it.”

However, he said there are few areas where fine-tuning is required.
