Carnatic strains

A Carnatic classical music by Amritha Murali of Chennai will be held on August 2, 5.30 pm at the Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandir Concert Hall, 9th Main, BSK 2nd Stage.

Memorial concert

Geetanjali’

Kryptos to rock

Kryptos will play at Kyra Theatre at Indiranagar, 100-ft Road on August 10. The gig is
scheduled to begin at 8.30 pm. A drum workshop by Ryan Colaco will precede this event at about 6 pm.

Celebrity recital

The Bangalore School of Music (BSM) will present a Celebrity Recital Concert at Alliance Francaise on July 31. The event starts at 7.30 pm. The concert will feature artistes Ladislav Brozman (violin) and Riccardo Carlotto (piano).   

Live Gig

The Live Gig will celebrate Independence Day at the Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain on August 16, 11 am to 6 pm.

‘Insane’

Reliance TimeOut will present a musical performance by Insane at the Rock Festival 2009, Cunningham Road on August 1. The timing is from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Santoor recital

A Hindustani santoor recital by Kunal Gunjal of Pune (disciple of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma), ccompanied by Rajendra Nakod on tabla, will be held on August 2 at 6 pm. The programme will be held at the Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs, near BMS
Engineering College, Bull Temple Road, N R Colony.

POT POURRI

‘Buddha Charitam’

Probal Gupta launches Buddha Charitam, the first-ever experimental piece in the history of Kathakali development at Sai International Dance Festival, Seva Sadan Auditorium, on August 1 at 5.45 pm.

Screening

The Oxford Bookstore and Big Home Video is screening Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino, at the Oxford Bookstore, Leela Galleria, Airport Road, at 5.30 pm on July 31.

Talk time

Conversations About Living:  Positive Thinking - A Myth, a talk by Dr Shyam Bhat MD, will be held on August 1 at the Indian Institute of World Culture, 6BP Wadia Rd, Basavanagudi. The timing is 6 pm to 8 pm.

Hand-made products

An exhibition of hand-made products, featuring 11 craft groups from across the country, will be on display in the City from August 1 to 5 at The Ants Store 2023 / B, Ist Cross, 14th ‘A’ Main, HAL, 2nd Stage, Indiranagar. The items include apparel, handicrafts, furnishings and accessories.

Karigar weaves

Vermilion House is hosting a textile show of hand blockprints on July 31 and August 1 at the Vermilion House, Cleveland Road, Fraser Town. The show will be open from 11 am to 7 pm. or details, call 41225830.

In remembrance

Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy, along with Shemaroo Entertainment, will inaugurate the centenary year of Akira Kurosawa, the Japanese film-maker, on July 31, 6.30 pm at Suchitra Auditorium.

Film Rashomon will be screened thereafter. Madadaya and Ran will be screened on August 1 and 2 at 6.30 pm.

‘Film-making 101’

Rabi Kisku Entertainment will present Film-making 101, a comprehensive film-making workshop and digital film-making, programme on August 1, 2, 8 and 9. The timing is 10 am to 4 pm and the venue is St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Museum Road. For details, call 9886539405.

display at Canara Union, 8th Main, Malleswaram till August 2.

DANCE

‘Natyarpana’

Natya Niketan will present Natyarpana, the maiden dance performances by Nirupama and Akshatha at the JSS Auditorium on August 2, 6.15 pm.  

Ballet moments

Natyatharanga is presenting Sri Srinivasa Kalayana, a dance ballet on August 1, 6.30 pm at the Indiranagar Sangeetha abha, Purandara Bhavana, 8th Main Road, HAL 2nd Stage.

The choreography and dance direction is by Shubha Dhananjay and the performance is by artistes and disciples of Shubha Dhananjay.

‘Rangapravesha’

 Nivedita SharmaNivedita Sharma, a disciple of M R Krishna Murthy, will perform her Rangapravesha at the
Ravindra Kalakshetra on August 3, 6 pm. 

DRAMA

‘Sathyameva Jayathe’

The play Sathyameva Jayathe, written by S Manjunath, will be performed at Ravindra Kalakshetra on August 2 by Anka, a folk and cultural performance troupe. 

‘Copenhagen’

Ranga Shankara will stage the English play Copenhagen, written by Michael Frayn, on August 1 and 2 at 7.30 pm. The play is 120-minute long and directed by Prakash Belawadi. On August 2, the play will also be held at 3.30 pm.

ART

‘Vertical Horizon’

An exhibition of photographs titled Vertical Horizon by Pallon Daruwala will be on view at Gallery Time and Space till August 14. 

‘Fusion’

Pink Ginger Arts is exhibiting art works of Achuthan Kudallur, Aelay Laxman, Asit Kumar Patnaik, Chippa Sudhakar and Ramesh Gorjala called Fusion from August 2 to 8 at Maini Sadam, Lavelle Road and at Hotel Taj Vivantra Whitefield, from August 10 to 16, from 10 am to 7 pm. Young works

Cartoons on Nehru

Don’t spare me Shankar, an exhibition of over 100 works of the father of political cartooning in India, late K Shankar Pillai, will be on display at the Indian Cartoon Gallery, Midford House, Midford Garden, off M G Road from August 1 to 25. Shankar’s best cartoons on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru will be exhibited. The timing is 10 am to 6 pm.
