Anna writes to Sonia, slams claims of saffron link

Last Updated 12 June 2011, 18:30 IST

“I am upset with these allegations made to malign me. This is a matter of serious concern,” Hazare stated in the letter.

Flaying the Congress for associating him with saffron brigades, the Gandhian also dared the party to reveal concrete evidence, if any, to substantiate their claims.

Rebuffing the claims, Hazare said: “It is propaganda by some Congress leaders who do not want me to get the support that I managed to get on April 5 at Jantar Mantar.”

Hazare wrote to Sonia Gandhi on a day when Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee claimed that the fasts of Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare were being sponsored and BJP and the RSS to further their political motives.

“The RSS is providing logistical support to these agitations. So it was decided to take on those who want to subvert the processes of the constitution. In a democracy, everyone has the right to agitate. But this cannot be used by parties, rejected by people, to resort to unconstitutional practices,” Mukherjee said.

Earlier as well, Congress leaders had dubbed both  Ramdev and Anna Hazare   “masks” being used by the suffron party.

Same were the views echoed by party spokesperson Manish Tiwari, who had said: “Anna Hazare is a mask of the RSS and Sangh Parivar” and that forces of right reaction and Left anarchism have come together in a conspiracy of national subversion.
