Undertrials in the jail are currently allowed to speak to their relatives with SIM cards provided by the jail authorities. Convicts lodged in the jail had submitted an application the jail authorities seeking the facility and it was forwarded to Inspector General of Police (Prisons), Bangalore and the jail authorities were awaiting reply from Bangalore.
Sources in the jail told Deccan Herald that on Sunday morning, the inmates suddenly launched a hunger-strike to press for their demand.
Senior officials succeeded in persuading the inmates to withdraw their fast, assuring them of getting a reply on Monday from IGP office, Bangalore.
