Free nursing course: Cash for seat alleged

Last Updated 12 June 2011, 17:32 IST

The District Health and Family Welfare department had invited applications for the free training, meant for 30 candidates. Interested had submitted applications and the selection process too had been completed.

A ZP member, who wished to be unnamed told Deccan Herald that a daily wage worker approached him seeking his recommendation for selection of his daughter to the course. The member contacted the officers to do his little bit. However, he was told that the selection had been over and candidates had been selected on the basis of merit. The officers told the ZP member that his recommendation cannot be considered.

However, what transpired later is a new story. The worker’s family came back to the ZP member only to chide his inability to get a seat. More astonishing was that the worker claimed to have ‘got the work done’ by paying Rs 30,000 to an officer. He however remained tightlipped on the officer who received money.

The ZP member said he was taken aback since the officers told him that the selection was over. He sought information from the District Health Officer and is yet to get the details.
In view of the ‘sale’ of seats the ZP member has urged the chief executive officer to scrutinise the selection for the free course. Meanwhile, the ‘benefitted’ family is reportedly putting pressure on the zilla panachayat member not to pursue the mater.
