Thieves struck at three different houses on seventh, 10th, and 11th floors of the complex between 2.30 and 10 pm, and fled with valuables worth Rs 3.75 lakh. There were attempted burglaries at three other flats as well. But thieves did not burgle them, as apparently there were no valuables.

Radha S Kavalekar (35), in her complaint to the police, said that the door of her flat (No 15/6, 10th floor, ‘C’ Block) was found broken open and the gold jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh kept in the cupboard, stolen.

The complainant says that she had locked the flat at 2.30 pm and gone out. The incident came to light when she returned at 7 pm.

B A Kulkarni, who lives at No 7, 7th floor in ‘D’ Block of the apartment complex, lodged a similar complaint.

Kulkarni says he left for work at 2.30 pm and came back at 10 pm. Upon his return, the door of his flat was found broke open and gold ornaments worth Rs 90,000 kept in the cupboard, stolen.

Similar modus operandi

Sutappa Mukherjee (38), who lives at No 4, 11th floor in ‘D’ Block of Platinum City, lost gold jewellery worth Rs 35,000 when she was away at work between 9.30 am and 5 pm. The burglary was committed in similar fashion – the door was broke open and the cupboard unscrewed, police said.

Platinum City is a town in itself with 1,400 houses. It consists of eight blocks – each with 140 flats.

As many as 60 security guards have been deployed. The main gate is manned by about five guards who keep the details of every new visitor. Also, security guards have been deployed at each block.

Police find clues

Yeshwanthpur police say they have found some clues through fingerprints and are working on them.  Given the tight security, it is suspected that insiders might be involved.
Although police have not yet pointed fingers at anybody, they say the involvement of house-keeping staff cannot be ruled out. Still, the matter is being looked at, through all angles. Three separate cases have been booked.
