Admission to Concordia College -NY

Applications are invited till the first week of July 2011 for the September 2011 intake.

The institution offers UG programmes including courses in Biology (environmental/medical and pre-medical), Business, Education, English/ New Media Communication, International Management, Liberal Studies, Nursing, Health Studies, Social Sciences (psychology and sociology) and Social Work and Masters in Special Education.

Students with a distinction of 75% and above or a GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 in the qualifying courses and with meritorious grades in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) would meet the pre-requisites for admission into the college. Programme cost would be USD 29,000 per annum. Scholarships in the range USD 10,000-15,000 per year are provided on merit.

Through the Credit Transfer Program, the college gives Indian students the benefit of switching over from Indian institutions to continue their desired courses in the Concordia College-NY.

MSc in Space Systems Engineering

The University of Southampton (UK) is inviting applications for its new course in MSc Space Systems Engineering.

This new programme is suitable for physics and engineering graduates and will focus on the design of all the elements to make up a space mission. It will give scientists and engineers the essential expert knowledge and skills to enable them to compete for jobs in the fast-growing world of space engineering.

The course will provide knowledge and understanding of the space environment, spacecraft system and subsystem design and how the spacecraft industry functions. It will include the following core modules:

Spacecraft engineering design: Using case studies in each of the major mission types (communications, science, remote sensing and manned missions)

Concurrent engineering design

Spacecraft instrumentation: Assessing the requirements for spacecraft instrumentation and the different types of instruments flown on spacecraft

Spacecraft structural design: An overview of the issues that need to be addressed in the design of spacecraft structures and mechanisms and an appreciation and understanding of the development of the whole spacecraft structural design process
The course starts in October 2011 and the maximum number of students to be admitted is 20. It is a full-time one-year course and the fee for the 2011-12 session is £13,900.

Candidates who wish to enroll for the course should have an upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in engineering, mathematics or a science-based subject. Those with employment experience will also be considered.
