Rs 1 crore proposal to develop Raja seat Park submitted

The spot has a distinction of being the only public park in district

While the number of tourists, especially foreigners, increases considerably in Kodagu district, the District Administration joins hands with other departments for the tourism infrastructure development. Accordingly, the Tourism Department has been requested to sanction Rs 1.03 crore for the development of Raja Seat Park, situated in the heart of the city.

It is a fact that the historical Raja Seat Park is one of the major tourist spots in the district, which attracts majority of tourists. Moreover, the spot also has a distinction of being the only public park in the district. Now it has been decided in the proposal to extend the park area to 5 more acres of land. More tourists are expected to visit the spot after the development of the park.

The uniqueness of the spot is that tourists can enjoy the exciting view of sunset from the park. In addition, the musical fountain developed inside the park is also a centre of attraction for visitors. 

There is also a proposal of constructing 5 observation points at a cost of Rs 25 lakh in the park and an observation tower at a cost of Rs 8 lakh. A total of Rs 20 lakh will be spent for the development of footpaths, while Rs 10 lakh will be used for the construction of artificial caves.

While Rs 30 lakh will be reserved for park development, Rs 10 lakh will be spent to install sprinklers to maintain greenery. The proposal of Rs 1.03 crore has already been handed over to the Tourism Department Director through Deputy Commissioner M K Baladevakrishna.

Horticulture Department Deputy Director Shakeel said that the Tourism Department has responded to the proposal positively. He said that the fund may be released for the development of the Park. The pond which caters water for Raja Seat Park has been cleaned and there will be no water shortage during summer, he added.
