Saraswathi is supposed to submit a report in this regard within 15 days.

Addressing a meet held to discuss over the fertiliser supply issue, on Wednesday at Kote hall, he said that monsoon has started and farmers are busy with their farm works. In such a situation, shortage of fertilisers will hamper the farming activities.

“Adequate quantity of fertilisers and seeds were supplied to the district. While distributing the same, shortage of fertilisers and seeds is felt. We will have to hold and inquiry into the issue to ascertain if there was any shortcoming during the supply itself,” said the ZP Chief
demanding for a report on the same.

Members Band Ganapathy and representatives of Vyavasaya Seva Sahakari Bank representatives B D Manjunath, Pandanda Naresh and others raised question on the statistics with regard to supply for fertilisers submitted by the officials.

However, in-charge DC K M Chandregowda said that excessive dependence on fertilisers and reduced production has led to scarcity of fertiliser across the State.

Ravi Kushalappa directed the agriculture department officials to hold a tour in the district, check if fertilisers are being sold in black market and submit a report within four days.
State Co-operative Federation Director Bellu Somaiah spoke elaborately on the reasons for shortage of fertilisers. ZP members said that such meetings must be held prior to monsoons, in April-May.
