Child Fund India celebrates 60 years

It is creating awareness on avoiding child abnormalities

MLA U T Khader inaugurating the programme to mark the 60th year celebrations of Child Fund India at SDM Mangala Jyothi Integrated School in Vamanjoor on Friday.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, the Integrated School Administrator Ganesh Bhat said that Child Fund, an international based organisation had joined its hands with the school 30 years ago. Child Fund used to earlier concentrate on welfare programmes and used to provide grants to deserving students.
Now it is concentrating on developmental programmes, especially with regard to spreading awareness on avoiding child abnormalities, said Bhat.

Inaugurating the programme, MLA U T Khader said that every child is a creation of god and serving children is equivalent to serving god. It is duty of every citizen to work for the social welfare, he said and appreciated the commendable efforts of the school and Child Fund in working for underprivileged children.

Rishivana Priest Fr Nelson Pinto said that children are deprived of their innocence in this corporate jungle created by globalisation. He advised children to preserve their innocence and grow spiritually and morally. The inauguration was followed by a drawing competition.
Nine children participated in two age categories and created creative pictures describing nature.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Sudharatna, an artist and resident of the school said that she used to get gifts and financial aid from Child Fund India till her SSLC. “It helped me a lot to progress or else I had to stay at home with my disability,” she added. Hearing aids were distributed to children by Child Fund on the occasion.
