Air India staffer sets herself ablaze

Aisha Mohammad Ali (21) from Thrissur, doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze at the flat she was sharing with her colleague for the last one year.

According to Yelahanka police, Aisha was a Guest Helper for Air India in Bangalore.
According to her roommate, Aisha was dejected for the past few days as her parents had objected to her relationship with a boy from her hometown. Police say that this could have been the reason for her taking the extreme step.

Aisha’s cellphone, which was recovered from the spot, showed that a series of messages confirming that her relationship was on the verge of collapse.

Around 2 am on Friday, Aisha locked the doors and windows of her flat and doused herself with kerosene before setting herself ablaze. Her roommate found Aisha’s charred body on Friday morning, when she returned home.

On knocking the door and finding no response, the roommate tried to break open the door with the help of her neighbours, only to find a blackened room with a burnt body on the floor.  The Yelahanka police sent the body to Thrissur after post-mortem at Ambedkar Hospital.
