BSE to snip RCom, Infra from Sensex

Last Updated 18 June 2011, 16:15 IST

BSE would replace these two companies with state-run Coal India (CIL) and the domestic drug major Sun Pharmaceutical Industries in the bellwether index, the exchange said in a statement on Friday. These changes will be effective from August 8.

Though the BSE has not given any reason on record for the move, insiders aver that it considers several criteria to select a company’s scrip in Sensex like minimum listing history of three months, regular trading in the scrip, 3-month average free-float and full market capitalisation and turnover.

RCOM was included in the BSE sensex in June 2006, within months of being listed on the BSE after it was demerged from Reliance Industries. It had then replaced Tata Power. However, data on the BSE website does not show when R-Infra was included in the elite 30 stocks.
