The Budikote Main Road is one of the most crowded roads in Bangarpet. Vehicles from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu ply on this road in large numbers. Every day as many as 2,000 vehicles take this road. Despite the thick density of vehicular population, the Budikote Main Road has been ridden with pot holes posing danger to both motorists and pedestrians for the past ten years.

As there is no alternate road to Budikote Main Road, all are dependent on this road, the protesters said.

More than 50 protests have been staged in the past one year seeking immediate redressal of the problem. There were also plans to gherao the Chief Minister who was to visit Bangarpet for the inauguration of a solar power station, in the past. To facilitate the smooth travel of Chief Minister, the road was readied for the day using crushed stones. However, by the time the vehicles returned the road was back to its abysmal state, the protesters said.

Several accidents have been caused because of the deplorable condition of the Budikote Main Road. The dust raised by vehicles has been found to be one of the primary causes of asthma among the people, they said.

“If the authorities concerned do not address the situation soon, we shall intensify
the protest,” warned the protesters.
