JOIN USInfosys campus in Bangalore gets CISF cover
“This is the first time since its creation in 1969, that the CISF will be providing security cover to a private corporate in India,” said CISF Inspector General R K Mishra, formally deploying the force personnel at the Infosys facility at a function on the Electronics City campus on Friday.
As a part of the CISF deployment, Infosys chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy hoisted the CISF flag on the campus. He said: “We are proud of the CISF and the armed forces. While maintaining the distance as demanded by the protocol, we will show our admiration, affection and respect and ensure our people are enthusiastic about the task they are performing.”
Earlier, Infosys and other major corporate firms had petitioned the Union Home Ministry to provide protective cover to them above the private security agencies. The security cover for Infosys is the first assignment for the CISF after the force was mandated to protect the private sector following an amendment in the CISF Act in January this year in the aftermath of 26/11.
The security cover will be provided in three phases. A total of 101 CISF personnel have been posted at the facility for which Infosys will incur an expenditure of Rs 1 lakh per month and Rs 3.5 crore per annum.
Infosys Director (Human Resources and Administration) Mohandas Pai said while the CISF would enhance security on the campuses, the company would continue to deploy around 350 private security guards. Pai said Infosys was in touch with the Karnataka government to set up a state level protection force called KISF and also to install surveillance cameras on Hosur Road so that the entire area comes under the security eye of the officials.
At least 79 corporate houses, including Reliance, Tata and Oberoi, have approached the government seeking CISF security cover, while the government has approved 10 applications including those of Bangalore-based companies such as Wipro, IBM and TCS.
