Cash from Baba's ashram seized

Harish Nandashetty, an engineer overseeing the construction of the samadhi of godman Sathya Sai Baba at Prashanti Nilayam in Puttaparthi, was driving the vehicle.

He told the police under questioning that the money was being carried from Yajur Mandir, the private chamber of godman Sathya Sai Baba at Prashanti Nilayam at Puttaparthi, to Bangalore.

Yajur Mandir, the Baba’s private chamber, was opened on Thursday for the first time since he was hospitalised on March 28, and revealed 98 kg of gold, 307 kg of silver and Rs 11.56 crore in cash.

Alert AP police officers, headed by Penukonda DySP Kolar Krishna are questioning Nandashetty to find out if he had made similar trips between Puttaparthi and Bangalore carrying money from Prashanti Nilayam in the past few days, and if there was involvement of any trust members in the trips made by him.
