Women SHGs demand separate milk federation

Members submit memorandum to CM

Members of the Federation of Self-Help Groups submitting a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner, demanding a separate milk federation to Chikmagalur on Monday.

The memorandum said that 75 per cent of the population in the district depends on agriculture and dairy farming for livelihood. Most of the farmers rear cattle. “Owing to the lack of organised system for selling milk, many farmers are incurring. About 16,000 SHGs and more than one lakh women are into dairy farming. With the formation of Milk Federation, the milk production is likely to be increased.”

The SHG Federation’s Radha Sundaresh warned of intensifying the protest if the authorities failed to constitute Milk Federation.

In fact, the SHG members submitted memorandum to the authorities in every taluk headquarters demanding the Milk Federation for Chikmagalur.

SKDRDP Project Director B Jayarama Nellithaya, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike district unit president Thegur Jagadish, BJP district Secretary Varasiddavenugopal, Aradhya, Radhasundaresh and others were present.
