Last Updated 23 June 2011, 15:59 IST

With the captain marshalling the troops from the front court, blocker Shelton Moses and star universal Sanjay Kumar added sting to the Bulls attack as they overcame a first set deficit to win 17-25, 25-20, 25-23, 29-27.

The Warriors too had their moments during the match but they were too few to help them go the distance against an aggressive Bulls’ line up. In the day’s opening match, after a gruelling first set against the Kerala Killers, the Chennai Spikers found their footing slowly before thumping their opponents 3-0. With a sparse crowd overlooking the proceedings, the Spikers looked far from comfortable but still managed to hold their own against a determined Killers to eventually post a 33-31, 25-18, 25-18 win.

In the first set, the teams barely gave each other an inch and the scores settled at 25 apiece. The Spikers upped the ante and surged ahead to enjoy an easy route onto clinching the second and third set for the match.
