Here is a hoarding in the Police Commissionerate’s premises that MCC will be proud of.
Unlike the usual hoardings which are a cause of distraction to the motorists, the hoardings issued by the Mangalore Police Commissionerate in view of public interest, motivates the riders to concentrate on road safety with awareness messages such as ‘Safety First Helmet Must,’ ‘Park right or it will be out of sight,’ ‘Switch off before you drive off,’ and ‘Save your head, Stop at Red’.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the hoardings have been put up in view of spreading awareness along with enhancing the warmth in people police relationship.

“As many of the police stations are placed on highways or junctions, we thought of erecting hoardings in such a way that it attracts the public. As we have put them within the police station premises, it is cost effective with one time investment of Rs 15,000,” he said and added that the investment for the hoarding has been pooled in from the Commissionerate’s funds.

The flex of the hoardings will be changed frequently. At present, the messages are concentrating on Road Safety but during the ‘Crime Prevention Week’ which was held in November 2010, pictures of the common crimes that take place were showcased to alert the spectators, says Singh.

The hoardings are presently put up in Police Commissionerate’s office, Kadri Police Station, Bunder Police Station and Urwa Police Station.

“We have plans of having more such hoardings in other stations and police lands. We are also planning to change the flexes once in a month with different messages. We can also put important phone numbers and greet people during festivities,” says Singh.

The Commissioner Singh has also invited designs of awareness concepts from the public. Informing the same he said:  “We will be happy to display the awareness ideas sent by the public in case it suits our need.”
