Around 11.30 am on Thursday, the citizens’ representatives from Muneshwara Nagar approached the police station and filed a complaint against the gang which operates in their ward. Police said a joint inspection with the BWSSB had been scheduled for Thursday night to arrest the culprits.

Congress MLA Prasanna Kumar approached the police, along with the citizens. People in the area complained that the political colour to the controversy was due to the fact that a BJP corporator hails from Muneshwara Nagar.

According to one of the residents who filed the complaint, Kabeer, their associate, was beaten up following his statement to a English daily against Munaveer, an illegal valve operator.

Kabeer had also stated in a BWSSB water adalat that the valves were illegally operated by Munaveer, a resident who supplies water and earns money from other residents. The complainant claimed that it was Munaveer’s gang which attacked Kabeer. Now, since they have filed a police compliant, they are likely to be attacked again, the complainant said.

BWSSB Executive Engineer Srinivas Reddy said that he had received many complaints about the valvemen mafia in DJ Halli and would be conducting an inspection to check the same.
