Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) officials on inspecting the contents have recommended sending them back to the UK, saying the contents of six of them could pollute environment and spread diseases, the official said.

Customs officials have registered a case against the Sivakasi-based company following the findings of TNPCB which recommended that the consignment should not be allowed into the country and should be re-exported to the UK.

The supplier was mentioned as CIF Papiers Cartons SAS.The containers were seized under the provision of Customs Act 1962 and Foreign Trade Policy and Hazardous Wastes Management Handling and transboundary Movement Rules 2008.

Rajan said action had been initiated through the Commissioner of Customs to send back the waste.
