“There seems to be shortage of mango leaves in the taluk  known for its mangoes,” a writer remarked wryly.

Poor decoration

His comment summarised the poor decoration at the venue, a kalyana mantap on MG Road. Worse, there were no boards or banners on the event, except the one at the main entrance of the Town Municipality office.

And the secret of sudden disappearance of taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president from the venue.

Children as audience

A member said the president had been to nearby schools to request headmasters send children to the event! That much for the absence of audience at the Kannada event.
Legislator G K Venkatashivareddy was upset that he had not been informed of the preparations for the event. He suggested to postpone the event and reorganise it with grandeur. He took district Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP)  president K Prahlada Rao to task.

Refusal

Former zilla panchayat president M Srinivasan refused to come over to the stage, as a mark of his displeasure. He even refused the badge and sat with the audience.
Children constituted majority of the audience and unaware of the decorum to be maintained, they engaged in  conversations. The programmes continued amid the din.

Apology tendered

District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Prahlada Rao tendered his apology for the poor arrangement.

Some members of the taluk KSP alleged that they had not been taken into confidence in organising the event.
