PAC open to inquire 'favours' in gas exploration

Last Updated 26 June 2011, 16:53 IST

“If a member raises the issue at the next PAC meeting and there is consensus in the panel, we will take up a probe” Joshi told reporters in Bangalore.

A recent draft special audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had revealed that government “favoured” private oil explorers including the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited for developing the Krishna Godavari basin-D6 gas field off the Andhra Pradesh coast. He sought to know the Union Government’s stand on the CAG report.

Taking strong exception to the conduct of ruling party members in the PAC on 2G spectrum scam, Joshi accused Union Ministers, including Kapil Sibal and P Chidambaram, of “controlling” the members from the Congress headquarters.

“The PAC has the constitutional mandate of protecting public funds. It is not a panel with political affiliations,” he said.
