As per the direction given by the Union Home Ministry last week, the Kiran Kumar Reddy government has beefed up security in and around Hyderabad. As many as 120 companies of Central police in addition to its own commandos will guard Hyderabad, Telangana districts and the coastal Andhra region.
Sources in the DGP office here said that the Centre has already allocated 55 companies. Another 50 companies are expected to reach the state in a week’s time. While five companies are exclusively for Hyderabad city, each Telangana district will have two para-military companies.
The Centre, according to sources, wants to ensure enough security steps in place not only in Hyderabad and Telangana districts, but also in the Seema-Andhra region before making the decision on the decade-long burning issue public.
“We intend to keep some standby force in coastal Andhra districts to meet challenges from the campaigners for integrated state,” a senior official said. The Centre had withdrawn BSF and CRPF personnel from the state in February in the wake of assembly elections in five other states and political tensions elsewhere.
