Six girl students faint after punishment in class

The ninth standard students of the co-ed Beldih Church School were asked to do sit-ups by a lady teacher for causing din during a teachers' meeting, they said. Six of the girls fainted soon afterwards and had to be rushed to Tata Main Hospital by the school management and some of the parents.

Inspector-cum-Officer-in-charge of Bistupur police station Pramod Kumar Singh said the ailing girls were Amrita Kumari, Rukshar Hashmi, Sazia Hassan, Simran Arora and two othes.

No written complaint has been lodged in this regard as yet, he said. However, the parents of the girls claimed they have registered a written complaint against the teacher Nilanjana and she has been suspended immediately.

The parents further alleged that the girls were hit on their legs with a stick. A teacher of the school, who was among others to take the girls to hospital, denied the allegation but admitted that they were asked to do sit-ups 100 times.

School authorities did not confirm if any action has been initiated against the teacher but said they were looking into the incident.
