Baba left enough to serve people: Trust

Last Updated 28 June 2011, 18:57 IST

Amid speculations that the Trust might fail to continue the work done by the late Sai Baba, Trustee V Srinivasan said: “Baba has deposited fixed deposits in several banks, earnings from which are enough to successfully manage the activities of the Trust in all the fields.”

He pointed out that in line with Baba’s vision, more and more of his students were being entrusted with the responsibility of executing projects under the supervision of the Trust.

Even Baba’s close aide, Sathyajit, who has faced allegations of not taking enough care of Baba is leading the web-based education programme for rural students.

The Trust, he added, was forming several task forces which would be headed by the students, including alumini. The annual report that the Trust has ‘promised’ to bring out every year will also be the responsibility of the students, he added.

Further, the Trust maintained that the over Rs 35 lakh seized by the police recently belonged to devotees and the money was given to a Bangalore-based consultant — Shankaranarayana Consultants — for construction of the Samadhi of Sai Baba.

Srinivasan said: “The Trust has no connection with the funds seized by the police as a group of devotees had approached Trust member R Ratnakar to contribute funds for the construction of ‘Samadhi’ of Sai Baba and they had given over Rs 35 lakh for the purpose.”

The money, he said, was handed over to a Bangalore-based project consultant for construction of the ‘Maha Samadhi’ on June 18 and the car of the consultant was stopped en route to Bangalore by police and the money seized, he said.

The project consultant has filed a letter with the police explaining that the funds had been given to them and that the money should be released for carrying out the construction work, he said.
