Up for the Dragon Challenge?

When I was young, I used to wish I could be a part of Enid Blyton’s World of Mystery.  I am sure most of you want to be a part of Harry Potter’s world of Hogwarts, butter beer, and Quidditch.

Now you can do just that. There is an amusement park in Orlando, Florida, USA which magically creates Harry’s world for you, complete with rides that make you think you are Harry himself. It is a part of Universal Studio’s Islands of Adventure.

As in other adventure parks, here you have a roller coaster. It is called ‘Flight of the Hippogriff, and all of you have read Harry Potter books know what to expect! The more exciting ride is a dual coaster which, I warn you, may actually scramble your brains! It is called ‘Dragon Challenge’, and it flips, tips, and twirls so much that you’ll feel you’re riding a Firebolt Broomstick!

The ‘Dragon Challenge’ consists of a blue dragon (Hungarian Horntail) and a red dragon (Chinese Fireball). Both the dragons take off at the same time and whip, swerve, and bend in a crazy ride. At one point in they come so close to each other that the riders, who think they are going to collide, let out piercing screams!

There is a ride called ‘Forbidden Journey’, which has become the universal favourite. It starts with Professor Dumbledore greeting everybody.  As part of the experience, Harry offers to sneak you into a Quidditch match.

Hagrid ensures you see a fire-breathing dragon. Riders are turned upside down, and spun around too. Other attractions include an Owl Post Office. There is even an ATM which is attached to Gringott’s Bank. I can see you asking what a Harry Potter world is without butter beer? Of course you can buy the treat. Where? There is a Hog’s Mead, which naturally sells this treat but just in case you feel thirsty elsewhere, vendors sell it all over the park.

Are you looking out for a wand to practice your magic? Wands are sold at a store here too, but they start at $29.95 so you’re probably better off buying a magician’s wand back home. Other favourites that are sold are Ton-tongue Toffee, Bertie Bolts Every Flavour Bean, Chocolate Frogs and all the other Harry Potter treats that you are familiar with. And, speaking of treats, the whole experience is a Potter Phantasma-goric Treat!
