Mauritius pick up twin victories

However, their desire to get healthy practice prior to matches against Junior India and the Indian Ocean Island Games kept them on court as they braced themselves to face a bemused Sports Hostel on the same court, seconds after their 3-2 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 24-26, 25-23) win against Postal.

Mauritius, who seemed very ordinary on day one of the series in their loss against KSP, were in better touch on the second day but they still left a lot to be desired. However, on day three of their 10-day visit, the Gilbert Alfred-led side looked every bit like a team ranked 57th in the world.

Smashing with precision, placing drops well and making tough defensive plays look easy, Mauritius did it all on the day to dominate proceedings in short spells but the obvious lack of natural skill prevented them from really taking firm command.

Postal, putting forth a decent challenge with a bunch of mediocre players at their disposal, pushed Mauritius all the way, but as was the case against KSP, the visitors held their nerve -- a quality which is quite easily their biggest asset.

Results: Mauritius bt Postal 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 24-26, 25-23; Mauritius bt Sports Hostel 25-21, 25-19.
