'Govt contemplating over giving compensation to coffee growers'

Addressing media persons on Saturday, he clarified that the government has not given any compensation to the coffee growers of Chikmagalur and Hassan districts.

“There were reports in media that the government has released Rs 1.37 crore to Chikmagalur district. However, the government has released that amount only to Mudigere taluk that incurred huge loss due to rain,” he said.

Immediate report urged

“The government is mulling over giving compensation to Kodagu too. The Deputy Commissioner has been urged to submit the rain loss report at the earliest. It is better if the growers inform the losses to the Tahsildar,” Muttappa advised.

He said the government has not neglected Kodagu. It has already released Rs 5 crore. But the Centre has not released any relief fund so far, he alleged.

“MP H Vishwanath who arrived late to the KDP meet, left it hurriedly. It had been expected that a detailed discussion held at the meeting regarding rain damages,” he said. BJP leaders Bellu Somaiah and Ravi Basappa were present at the press meet.
