96 acquitted in Gujarat riots case


Judicial Magistrate Rita Vyas of the fast-track court on Saturday, acquitted all the ninety six.
They were accused in a case of rioting and arsoning in the Motipura area of Himmatnagar taluka.

The incident occurred on February 28, 2002, when a mob burnt down houses and damaged assets of a minority community in the Motipura area.

Two persons were injured in the riot, which had broken out following burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express train near Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002.

All the accused were booked for rioting, arsoning, causing damage to properties and looting.
