Eleventh batch of 3,690 pilgrims leave for Amarnath

The pilgrims comprising 965 women and 107 children left in a cavalcade of 119 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 0530 hours for Amarnath, a Police Control Room (PCR) official said.

Taking the death toll to 37 in the ongoing yatra, three pilgrims and a local driver died in the last 24 hours, officials said.

Vinod Kumar (38), Sucheta Yadav (45), cab driver Gulzar Ahmad Khan and an unidentified pilgrim died due to cardiac arrest, they said.

The 46-day yatra commenced from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes on June 29 and so far over 2.40 lakh pilgrims had 'darshan' of the naturally formed ice-shivlingam at the cave shrine.

The yatra is progressing smoothly on both routes as nearly 16,000 pilgrims headed for the cave shrine.
