Mining report may be out before July 20

Santosh Hegde wary of setting a date for release of the report

But Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde is non-committal with regard to the new ‘deadline’.
Hegde is averse to set a date for the release of the report, saying he has not met deadlines earlier.

According to sources in the Lokayukta, however, the report will be submitted before July 20. Out of the 20-odd ‘schedules’, 15 of them are now in printing and binding stage.

Multiple agencies

Sources said one of the primary reasons for the delay in submission of the report is the involvement of multiple agencies including the Central Empowered Committee and the
Income Tax department, which are verifying facts and exchanging information with the Lokayukta.

Further, tracing multiple bank transactions and ascertaining the actual culprit has been a long process, added sources.

Two more names

Meanwhile, two more names are doing rounds for the soon-to-be-vacant post of Lokayukta. Former chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, M Ramakrishna, and former chief justice of Karnataka High Court, Y Bhaskar Rao, are tipped to replace Hegde.

Also, with the post of Additional Director General of Police lying vacant, several aspirants, including ADGPs Satyanarayana Rao and Umapathi, are vying for it, added sources.

The post fell vacant on April 30 after Roopak Kumar Dutta was transferred.
