According to an officer of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), the Palike has so far not informed the BWSSB about its proposal to shift the feeder lines running along the Sankey Road for up to 1,000 metres near Chowdaiah Hall Main Road, Service Road (Ayyappa temple) and at 18th Cross Bhashyam Circle.

Replacing the feeder lines will cost the Water Board an estimated Rs five crore and that will have to be borne by the BBMP, the officer said.

According to a BWSSB engineer, if the road is widened till the place where the pipelines exist, it would be a burden on the Board to carry out maintenance work on the feeder lines as the road will have to be dug in case of leakages.

The BWSSB in its letter to the BBMP stated that since there was no parallel road to Sankey Road, it would have to lay all the five pipelines in the portion earmarked for widening. It also sought an additional five-metre space, apart from the proposed 14 metres that would be widened, for relocating the five feeder lines.

Separate ‘duct’

The Water Board also suggested a separate ‘duct’ in the proposed widening portion to accommodate the pipelines. It would be better if the feeder lines are relocated before the Palike begins work on the project, the Board official said.

Details about the existing feeder lines were brought to the notice of Bangalore Urban district in-charge Minister R Ashoka, Malleswaram MLA Ashwath Narayan and BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah during a meeting on July 7, the official added.
