A chair for better posture

Companies are focusing more on building better collaborative work environments owing to the drastic shift in trend from individual work desks to collaborative working solutions.

To meet these rapidly growing needs of various business enterprises, Steelcase - an office furniture solutions provider, introduces its range of collaborative seating solutions called i2i. The i2i chair has been designed specifically to foster collaboration and accommodates a variety of postures so people can remain engaged, focused and connected. It enables eye-to-eye and eye-to-information, simply and comfortably.

In a truly collaborative work session, teams need to share complex ideas, drawings and explanations. To make this comfortably possible, it is important for a certain level of comfort to exist between the people involved and the place where interactions take place.

The i2i design is based on three key insights which include promotion of free movement, comfort for long periods of time, automatic and intuitive adjustments and supporting multiple postures. These key insights have been derived from human-centric research observations such as long hours involved in collaborations, rare adjustment of chairs during collaborations and frequent change in postures when collaborating.

There is an enormous demand for quality seating solutions in Indian workplaces for an effective work environment and especially for productive collaborations. More emphasis has been laid on aesthetics and style neglecting the mechanics essentially needed to design an efficient chair. Hence, the i2i chair will be a boon for the Indian workspaces as it is not only visually striking, but also, has been designed considering all those intricate technicalities essential for a perfect collaborative chair.

i2i is free of adjustments, yet has a flexing back and a mechanism that invite both movement and support when sitting upright or reclined. It supports a variety of postures through its dual swivel mechanism that allows users to swivel the seat and back together, swivel the back only (stay oriented to others while adjusting your posture to reduce fatigue) or swivel the seat only (keep your posture but change your orientation).

It also includes an optional swivel return cylinder.  The flexing back features molded “fingers” that support back movement and recline, for comfort. As people don’t prefer adjusting chairs in a collaborative setting, i2i chair has been created without adjustments so anyone can get comfortable quickly. It is available with or without tablet arm, and with or without wheels. Surface materials include multiple finishes and sixteen knit colours for the seat and back. Fabric options include Steelcase and Designtex fabric, leather or vinyl as well as optional COM (customer’s own material), COL (customer’s own leather) and COV (customer’s own vinyl).

Range of fire safety glasses
Vetrotech Saint-Gobain India, a division of Saint Gobain Glass India, a float glass manufacturer, has launched a new range of fire-safety-glasses. These fire-resistant ranges of glasses are made through an advanced tempering / multi-lamination process so as to provide fire resistance up to 120 minutes.

This range of glasses can be used for doors, partitions, building facades, fire exits, server rooms, compartmentalisation in malls, corridors, fire exit stairway enclosures etc. These glasses also provide a very high light transmission thereby enabling visibility of the
entrapped people.

The National Building Code laid out in 2005 has categorically emphasized the use of fire and life safety rules and regulations. It has now become imperative for commercial/ large format buildings to get a No-Objection-Certificate (NOC) for its buildings prior to its operation. This increases the relevance of Saint Gobain’s fire-safety products among its consumers.

Other than fire alarms, fire exit plan, smoke detectors, fire sprinklers, installation of fire resistant glass in critical areas of any building will ensure an enhanced precautionary set up against fire accidents. Statistically, the maximum numbers of deaths in a fire breakout occur within the first hour and mostly due to the heat generated by the fire.

Some of these glasses will also protect against the radiant heat generated during a fire:
Transparency will make the fire visible from the adjoining rooms Resistance of the fire for almost two hours will allow enough time for either stopping or escaping
Cutting off the heat generated by the fire will avoid casualties caused by heat
Saint Gobain’s fire-safety-glass brings to the table aesthetics, safety, high-impact resistance, visual-clarity and fire resistance up to 120 minutes.

This fire-safety product range finds its application in hotels lobbies, staircase, theatres, exhibition halls, airport, stadium, hospital, libraries, commercial buildings etc. These are used for interiors and for the exteriors purposes as they gracefully blend with the architects design.
