In a one of a kind venture, the entire cast of Vinayaka Geleyara Balaga, along with its director Nagendra Prasad, visited fans across 22 cities in Karnataka in nine days prior to the release.

As part of the programme, the team visited colleges and old age homes and met associations that organise Ganesha festivals on a large scale, including one in Belgaum, that had been organising the festival for more than 100 years.

Metrolife caught up with some members of the team just before they headed off to Mysore and Mandya. From chatting with fans on a personal level to singing songs and even beating drums with the public, the stars said that they had a blast on their journey.

“I feel this has been one of the best experiences I’ve had promoting a film. Everywhere we went, around 5,000 people had gathered and they had so many questions to ask us,” says Meghna, the heroine of the film.

Director Nagendra said that as the film is set in the 1980s, they wanted to spread the word directly to the people instead of using just technology or media. “During the 80s, we did not depend so much on technology as we do now.

That made this tour all the more special. Also, we didn’t want to leave any stone unturned before the release. That’s why we made sure that we covered all the major cities before the release itself,” he adds.

Vijay Raghavendra, who plays the boy-next-door in the movie, says that he is nervous like any newcomer prior to the release. “The movie has made me feel like a newcomer again. While talking about the movie to the fans, I felt like I was introducing myself through this project. I have become so close to the entire starcast that we have become great friends both off and on camera,” he adds.

With the film aiming to be a blast from the past, it was only natural for many of them to take inspiration from yesteryear actors. While Vijay said one will get to see various references from the looks the actors donned during the 80s, Meghna adds, “I loved the 80s especially actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Malashree ma’am and Laxmi ma’am. Though the look will be similar to theirs, I have brought in a bit of my own touch to the character. I am sure old Bangaloreans will surely relate to the film and hope they enjoy themselves,” she signs off.
