India in final of basketball meet

Last Updated 14 July 2011, 13:30 IST

The home team was ruthless in the 120-26 win over its hapless opponents at the Thyagraj Stadium. The huge win comes a day after India's young cagers decimated Sri Lanka in a pool A game yesterday.

In the title clash, India will play the winner of the Nepal-Sri Lanka semi-final, tomorrow. Vishesh Bhriguvanshi scored 18 points but the star of the day was young Punjab lad Amrit Pal Singh who also had 18 points.

Power forward Amrit Pal provided the spark, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, and a host of electrifying dunks. India led by a mammoth 56 points at the end of first half. Like Sri Lanka the day before, Bangladesh committed several turnovers and only managed one point in the final quarter.

India's coach Kenny Natt's tactic to rely on great team defense and unselfish offense, based on good passing guards like Sambhaji Kadam (who finished with 12 assists), Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, Hareesh Koroth, and Prakash Mishra, again proved to be a successful one.
