ZP meeting: Babus' nepotism come to fore

Last Updated 14 July 2011, 17:24 IST

“There is no value for our recommendation letters, no benefits are being provided to those we refer, any projects that are to be implemented should be brought to their notice’, these were the demands put forth by the Zilla Panchayat members before the officials, at the meeting held in Chamarajanagar on Wednesday.

The appointment of coordinators for the Suvarna Bhoomi Project dominated the discussion and the harsh reality that those favoured by the MLAs, ZP president and elected representatives had been appointed for the posts came to the fore. The members were adamant that the agricultural kits that were distributed to farmers in all taluks should be given to the beneficiaries identified by them.

B M Shivamallu, joint director of Department of Agriculture said, 74 persons have been appointed as co-ordinators for the suvarna bhoomi project and it does not come under the limits of zilla panchayat. Deputy Commissioner himself is the president of the scheme and the appointment has been done as per his guidance, he said.

Vice president M Siddaraju opposed for the appointment and demanded to know on what basis they have been selected, which was supported by another member G Nagashri.
Member Nagendra blamed there were disparities in distribution of agricultural kits and at one stage the discussion turned into heated arguments.

Reacting to this, Shivamallu said there are sufficient agricultural kits and the eligible farmers would be presented with the same.
