The unfortunate victims are Arpita (7) and Sanjayram (21). The girl had come to visit her grandmother and she was playing near the Sarangi lake in the evening. Sanjayram who was working in a nearby field heard her cries for help.
He got caught in the slush when he got into the lake and was unable to extricate himself and died. The child also breathed her last when nobody came to her rescue.
Arpita’s body was recovered, while search was on for the body of Sanjayram. Chikkegowda Nagarika Trust secretary K C Revanna helped in searching the
bodies.
