NMPT donates traffic signal lights

Last Updated 03 August 2009, 16:47 IST

According to a press release, Superintendent of Police Dr A S Rao switched on the signal system in the presence of NMPT Chairman P Tamilvanan, Deputy Commissioner in-charge Prabhakar Sharma and Panambur DySP S Girish. The light cost Rs 8.62 lakhs.

Tamilvanan while addressing the gathering stated that the Port has already taken action to provide a foot overbridge also at the panambur circle, which will further smoothen the pedestrian movement.

It may be noted that after the four-laning work on NH-17, the traffic island at Panambur Circle was removed, causing a lot of inconvenience to the general public for crossing the road.

The port labour unions and the general public has been requesting the Port Trust Administration for providing traffic signal lights at the circle since 4 schools, port staff colony, market and JNC Hall are located inside the port town.
