Huber has been roped in by Tenvic — former cricketer Anil Kumble’s venture that focuses on providing sports education and training in mainstream schools across the country — to develop a coaching manual which would help the badminton coaches to produce technically correct and physically fit young shuttlers.

Huber will be using the facilities at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy and the German will be assisted by the coaches at the academy. “The work started four days ago and will go on till August 6,” said Huber at the KBA Stadium on Tuesday.

Huber, who had coached German and Denmark national teams, said the coaching manual will have text as well as video clips. “The whole idea is to develop a structured coaching programme for the coaches. Because it is very much useful in developing the sport,” he said.

“From tomorrow, we will start to capture video clips of young shuttlers who will be playing in the Sub-Junior tourney here. Then we will analyse these videos to introduce corrective measures and methods to improve physical fitness before coming up with the handbook,” added Huber.

Though, the German was all praise for the potential of the shuttlers in the country, he was critical of the technical errors made by the youngsters. “Honestly, there is a lot of potential here. But I also noticed several young chaps holding the badminton racquet in a way it is not advisable,” noted Huber.

PPBA director and chief coach U Vimal Kumar was upbeat about the prospect of working with Huber. “He was the man behind developing several players in Germany and Denmark and other countries. He can improve the coaching standards here. PPBA will have only the assisting part while the rest is taken care of by Tenvic,” said Vimal.
