DSS activists had launched a hunger strike in front of the office of deputy commissioner in the city since the past few days, urging the district administration to hand over the land at Vaddambalu village in Hunsur taluk, to its actual owner Cheluvaiah.

It was alleged that some vested interests had put up a hut, besides building a temple on the land belonging to Cheluvaiah, a native of Honnenahalli. Peeved about this, Cheluvaiah resorted to a hunger stir.

On Tuesday, 11 protestors took ill and were rushed to K R Hospital. They are: Somaiah, Devamma, Prema Mary, Shanthamma, Manjula, Ningamma, Chennamma, Chennaiah, Ramaiah, Mariyaiah and Mahadevu.

Deputy commissioner P S Vastrad who convened a meeting with DSS leaders announced that the land in question has been handed over to Cheluvaiah.

Following the development, the agitators decided to call off their strike. Earlier, Hunsur MLA H P Manjunath who met the protestors promised to look into the issue.
