Govt approves two highway projects worth Rs 2,330 crore

This includes the project for development of four laning of 150 km long Chhattisgarh-Orissa Border – Aurang section on National Highway-6 in Chhattisgarh under NHDP.

The total project cost is estimated at Rs 1,548 crore and covers the Districts of Raipur and Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh, an official statement issued after the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure, said.

The main object is to further improve infrastructure in Chhattisgarh, particularly in industrial area as the project road caters to the major traffic leading to Chhattisgarh- Orissa Border to Aurang.

This is also aimed at helping reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between the two states.

The Cabinet Committee of Infrastructure also gave its nod to the development of four laning of 54 km long Walayar - Vadakkancherry section on National Highway-47 in Kerala.
The total project cost of the project which is situated in the Palakkad district of the state is estimated at Rs 785.26 crore.

The main object of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the state of Kerala and also reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic plying between Walayar – Vadakkancherry, particularly heavy traffic running between Palakkad, Trissur, Kochi and other parts of Central Kerala to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

Both these projects are expected to raise the employment potential for local labourers.
